Eat Your Yard

There is a new company in town and they are taking the new wave of vegetable growers and helping them make their vegetable growing dreams come true. Cascaidian Edible Landscapes or eatyouryard.com is a company that can do everything to help you start your vegetable garden. From building raised beds for you, picking out the right type of soil you need, delivering seedlings to your neighborhood, and coaching you through the rough spots of gardening- there is no way any black thumb can't grow a garden with the help of these guys.

Every day I meet young people who want to grow their on veggies out of their tiny back yards, on their mini balcony, or on the rooftops of their apartment buildings. The one common question I hear from them is "where do I start"? Often times a new gardener will start at the big box stores (mistake #1) and come home tired, frustrated, and overwhelmed because their questions were not answered and now they have even more questions about growing their own vegetables, so the give up (mistake #2).

Cascadian edible landscapes makes this world of vegetable gardening an approachable endeavor for anyone. So this is what they will do for you:

* Find a spot on your property that is best for growing vegetables and build a raised bed for your crop
* Fill it with a mix of soil that will be ideal for your new seedlings
* Bring you a flat of seedlings according to the season you are starting to grow in
* Coach you through the garden vegetable process at an hourly fee.

Isn't that brilliant?

I know there are a lot of people out there who do know what they are doing, and for you guys there is a program they have where they will deliver to your neighborhood a flat of vegetable seedlings four times a year, according to season for you to plant in your garden.
Michael and Jake, the owners of this amazing company have seen their business grow almost 50% in the last year because of the cool factor of growing vegetables, but I have a feeling all those new vegetable growers are going to be hooked because people like Michael and Jake make it so easy for the average busy person to have their own crop of fresh veggies for their families.

*****HERE IS A LETTER I RECEIVED FROM MICHAEL

--- Hopefully he'll find a greenhouse to keep it going!

Dear friends,

Cascadian Edible Landscapes is helping to transform public and private spaces in and around Seattle into a network of sustainable community food systems. We build food gardens and do our work at sliding-scale rates so people of all incomes can afford to grow healthy food. Additionally, we grow edible plants for farmers market and for the first-and-only-in-the-nation Community Supported Plant Starts Program. This fall/winter we will be obtaining our 501(c)3, or umbrella status with another local food related non-profit, to support the CSPS/food justice mission.

We are currently looking for greenhouse space and would like your support in finding one. We are offering $100 in plants (seedlings, fruit trees, etc) to anyone who connects us to our new site.

Our ideal site can hold a 1200+ square foot greenhouse, is in full sun, is within city of Seattle limits, has access to utilities (we will pay for them), as well for our truck. Lastly, we are looking for a longer term lease. Please contact us if this sounds close to what you have.

We will be hosting weekly/bi-weekly work parties on-site with friends and interns throughout the Spring, and our greenhouse coordinator will need accesss for watering every 1-2 days most days February-September. As this is non-profit in mission, we hope to have free rent, and are open to paying a modest rent and/or work-trade.

We are committing to building and maintaining the site, paying utilities, keeping things orderly on site, and growing 40,000 plants from seed! Please see attached photos for an idea of what we are looking to implement, and please connect us with anyone who might want to host this.

Thank you for your time. In food community,
--
