Palmer Lake

new dam proposed for Washington state

On December 18, 2008 the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) granted the Public Utility District No. 1 of Okanogan County a preliminary permit for the Shanker’s Bend Hydroelectric Project to investigate the feasibility of a dam to be located on the Similkameen River in Okanogan County, Washington. The PUD immediately commissioned the study with $750,000 of funding from the Washington State Department of Ecology and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Not surprisingly, the PUD that funded and commissioned the study got the answer they wanted.
