Join Backyard Barter, a project sponsored by Seattle Tilth and funded through the City of Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods, as we barter homegrown and homemade food with our neighbors! There is only one rule for this event: no cash allowed!
The event will begin with a potluck with the barter to start concurrently. This is a great opportunity to share your homemade food, items and related skills in a fun community environment! Past events have featured such items as delicious canned food, a live duck, microbrews and wine, seedlings and starters, and fresh eggs!
Backyard chickens provide great-tasting, healthy, environmentally responsible eggs, plus plenty of entertainment, even in the middle of the city! Learn the basics of keeping chickens in your backyard, from biology to buildings, in this introductory workshop.
Instructor Jenifer McIntyre, a trained biologist and behavioral ecologist, has a backyard flock of her own and has taught many workshops in the past to share her enthusiasm for the topic. She will guide you through the essential topics to get you well on your way to raising some backyard chickens of your own.
