I'd like to share news of a powerful new climate justice film, The Island President, which will be premiering in Seattle this weekend (running May 4-17) at the SIFF Cinema at the Uptown. The film is an incredibly moving portrait of a true climate hero, President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, who was forced to resign from office under duress earlier this year. Three Degrees (threedegreeswarmer.org) will be hosting a screening at the theater during the Friday, May 4 premiere at 7:15 p.m.

An Alaskan couple takes on North America's largest tidewater glacier to learn about global warming, trekking with their toddler and baby. Hig, Erin, Katmai (2 years), and Lituya (9 months) journey over a hundred miles across the icy lobe of Malaspina Glacier and along the storm-battered north Pacific coast. Over the course of two months in the wilderness, they weathered the fall storms of Alaska's remote and harsh Lost Coast, lugged 50 pounds of kids across rubble fields, ice, and beaches, and explored climate change in action.

Scoring strong reviews from the Huffington Post, LA Times, Seattle Times, and Bloomberg, among other publications, Carbon Nation is an entertaining, informed and pragmatic primer about why it’s smart to be a part of the new, low-carbon economy even for those who don’t believe in climate change: it’s good business.
