Teachers/PTA Members,

Imagine your students involved in one of the most critical and timely topics of the 21st century. They are learning how they can reduce their environmental impact, mitigate their individual "carbon footprint" and get their school involved in the same process. They are involved because you took the time to learn about the Cool School Challenge (www.coolschoolchallenge.org).

The Cool School Challenge engages students, teachers and school districts in a school-wide initiative to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2,000 pounds or more per classroom, per school year. The Challenge empowers students to become leaders, take action, and make a difference. The program can be administered by any teacher interested in becoming a “Challenge Coach,” and is especially suited for science and math teachers and ASB leaders.

This month it is our pleasure to have Matt Schneider of Bio Energy Washington as our guest speaker. His work with Bio Energy Washington revolves around recovering natural gas from landfill sites and pumping it back into the pipeline, an essentially free source of energy that would go to waste otherwise. Please join us for an in depth look at this fascinating technology and what is being done in our own state.
