Green or greenwashed? With the growth in the green building sector it is more important than ever to be truthful about the materials we are using. We can’t rely completely on certification. To uncover the truth we need to do most of the research ourselves. Let’s stop greenwashing in its tracks and share our findings with the manufacturers so they can improve their products.

This class will cover the basics and benefits of cisterns, understanding how a cistern works, how to get started collecting your rainwater, and local resources. Contractor Robert Burns explains the ins and outs of working with reclaimed material for your home improvement projects. Whether you are a do-it-yourselfer or hiring a contractor, you need see the big picture for how to safely salvage, refurbish and install reclaimed materials. Robert will take participants on a guided tour of the RE Store, touching on the logistics of working with reclaimed items such as doors, flooring, windows, cabinets, and more. Bring your questions and ideas for an interactive introduction to the joys and challenges of reuse!

The GreenDwellingSeattle tours are designed to be more than just a walk through a home, but a complete green building experience. Participants are given an introduction to common green building materials at ecoHAUS and then a guided tour of a select green home led by the people that are responsible for the homes design and construction. This month we will be taking a behind the walls tour of Dwell Development’s latest project in Judkins Park. We will have a chance to see the construction techniques, materials, and systems up close.
