Local Native storyteller Ravenspeaker (Robert Frederiksen) of the Tsimshian Raven Clan shares NW stories, song and dance. Born and raised in Seattle, Ravenspeaker has travelled all over North America as a recognized Culture Bearer for the Northwest Coast’s First Peoples. Che oke’ ten’s (Paul Wagner) current recording releases include “Journey of the Spirit,” a solo acoustic Native American flute album & winner of the Best Album in 2009 Just Plain Folks music awards, and “Prophecy Teachings of the First Peoples of the Northwest Coast,” a project partnership with acclaimed Coast Salish storyteller Whis.tem.men.knee (Johnny Moses).
Premiere. A film about Princess Angeline, the daughter of Chief Seattle, by Sandy & Yasu Osawa followed by a discuss with the filmmakers. The daughter of Chief Seattle, seen on many postcards, lived alone toward the end of her life--refusing to leave her homeland. What historical events led up to her being one of the few Duwamish left in the City of Seattle by the 1890's, only 35 years after the peace treaties? The fim explores the unrecognized tribal status of the Duwamish primarily through the life of Princess Angeline. Donation $10.
