The course provides an introduction to wild mushroom identification. Emphasis is on basic identification skills of wild mushrooms, including edible mushrooms and their poisonous look-alikes. Students will learn what to look for and terminology used to distinguish common mushrooms and relatives. Basic fungal biology and ecology will be discussed. Advanced students are welcome and would also benefit from the class.

As part of the ASES National Solar Homes Tour, Seattle City Light, NWSEED and Solar Washington will be hosting a kick off event including a Solar Works! In Seattle presentation, and solar demonstrations from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation and the International Solar Cookers.

Chapter Kick-Off and Biodiesel Basics
The Kick-Off will include an introductory presentation on biodiesel and the Network, and experts will be on hand to answer questions. Anyone interested in getting better vehicle fuel efficiency, decreasing their carbon and pollution output, bolstering the economy and national security, or investigating future “green” job opportunities, are encouraged to attend. The home tour this month features one of Seattle’s foremost “green builders”. Jim Barger with Greenleaf Construction will talk to us about his project in Seattle’s Central District. Complementing their great designs is the inclusion of salvaged, reclaimed, and double-use materials which clearly illustrates their holistic approach to urban infill development.
The tour starts at ecoHAUS at 11:00and includes a discussion about green building materials and lunch. Then off to the house to meet with the builder.
Featuring local food creations with Washington-grown, organic and sustainable, farm fresh food, Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin will talk about what the city is doing to support local food. Chef Seth Caswell of the Seattle Chef’s Collaborative will prepare the meal, and Washington farmers will provide the ingredients from their organic & sustainable farms.

Crooked Trails, a non profit community based travel company and long time partner of Maiti Nepal – the organization battling sexual slavery in India and Nepal, is proud to host the founder of this amazing organization Anuradha Koirala in Seattle on October 16th.
