GreenDwellingSeattle Green Home Tour

The home tour this month features one of Seattle’s foremost “green builders”. Jim Barger with Greenleaf Construction will talk to us about his project in Seattle’s Central District. Complementing their great designs is the inclusion of salvaged, reclaimed, and double-use materials which clearly illustrates their holistic approach to urban infill development.

The tour starts at ecoHAUS at 11:00and includes a discussion about green building materials and lunch. Then off to the house to meet with the builder.

Film Screening: Lifting the Veil on Sexual Slavery: A Night with one of India’s Most Inspirational Women

Crooked Trails, a non profit community based travel company and long time partner of Maiti Nepal – the organization battling sexual slavery in India and Nepal, is proud to host the founder of this amazing organization Anuradha Koirala in Seattle on October 16th. Ms. Koirala will be in Seattle for a very special screening and Q&A of the award winning documentary The Day My God Died, narrated by Winona Ryder and Tim Robbins. Her work was also the basis for the Academy Award winning documentary Born Into Brothels.

Around the world, coastal environments and economies, wild fish and other marine life have been affected by the expansion of large-scale farming of fish, shrimp and certain kinds of shellfish. Few safeguards are in place as marine feedlots produce commodity seafoods, resulting in habitat loss, pollution, competition for food, and diminished access and quality of life for coastal residents.
