After playing to great acclaim at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, this visually stunning documentary is coming to Seattle. It may be hard to remember now in the Age of Al Gore and Obama, but once upon a time, everyone was not “going Green.” EARTH DAYS looks back to the dawn of the modern environmental movement -- from its post-war rustlings in the 1950s and the 1962 publication of Rachel Carson's incendiary bestseller Silent Spring, to the first wildly successful 1970 Earth Day celebration. Using personal testimony and rare archival media, the film illuminates the fact that positive changes in social attitudes, technological possibilities and political determination can take place very rapidly if the will exists.
**Solar energy pioneer/original 1970 Earth Day organizer, Denis Hayes, will be in person for a Q&A Friday and Saturday evenings. Screening times will be available on the theater website at: http://www.landmarktheatres.com/market/Seattle/VarsityTheatre.htm.
