Part I: The Basics

(8:30-Noon)

Created to provide insights into the sustainability sector and strategies for obtaining a related position, Part I introduces a wealth of information regarding where and how to begin one’s career development process. Topics include types of sustainability careers and educational opportunities, and strategies for gaining experience and identifying opportunities, among others. Time is also allotted to answer participants' specific questions during and at the end of the workshop. Participants receive an extensive annotated resource guide to help inform and propel their journeys.

The workshop includes sections on:

  • What's It All About: Overriding Issues
  • Who Are You (and Why It Matters): Self Assessment
  • Finding Your Place: Career Types
  • Knowing What to Know: Skill Sets
  • The Psychology of Hiring: Reducing Risk
  • Foot Meet Door: Getting In
  • Carpe Diem: Next Steps
  • This workshop is for anyone looking for a sustainability-related career regardless of length of time in the workforce.

Part I: The Basics is a prerequisite for taking Part II

    Part II: Refining Your Strategy

    (2-5:30)
A more interactive session, the Part II workshop builds and expands upon the
information previously presented. It is intended for those who have begun to
engage and act upon the earlier material. Through in-depth discussion and
interactive exercises, attendees focus on identifying and overcoming
barriers, developing and adjusting career development strategies, and
exploring specific opportunities and resources. Participants are encouraged
to bring their individual questions, as well as insights, to this small
    group, participatory session.
