Teachers/PTA Members,

Imagine your students involved in one of the most critical and timely topics of the 21st century. They are learning how they can reduce their environmental impact, mitigate their individual "carbon footprint" and get their school involved in the same process. They are involved because you took the time to learn about the Cool School Challenge (www.coolschoolchallenge.org).

The Cool School Challenge engages students, teachers and school districts in a school-wide initiative to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2,000 pounds or more per classroom, per school year. The Challenge empowers students to become leaders, take action, and make a difference. The program can be administered by any teacher interested in becoming a “Challenge Coach,” and is especially suited for science and math teachers and ASB leaders.

To date, participating schools have reported a combined savings of 1,529,271 lbs of CO2 ~ just from simple behavior changes around the school relating to electricity, heating, waste and transportation. What’s more, these actions have saved money for these schools and school districts. Most importantly, however, the students embrace the issues, the cross-disciplinary connections, the science, the math, and their role as change agents. Experiential learning at it's finest!

If you are a 3rd-12th grade teacher or PTA member interested in actively engaging your students in the topic of climate change, we invite you to our upcoming FREE workshop to learn more about the program and how you can become a “Challenge Coach.” At the workshop, you will receive all the materials to implement the Cool School Challenge. As an added bonus, the Cool School Challenge team is partnering with a variety of organizations to provide great supplemental curriculum and local relevance to the Challenge.
