Presentation Summary:
As a national board member of American Water Resources Association (AWRA) and a practitioner of integrated water resources management (IWRM), I will be presenting some of the work I have been doing over the past decade or so. This presentation will identify key elements and aspects of IWRM, the importance of this approach to developing project solutions, and the long lasting benefits. Specific examples will be presented demonstrating how IWRM will become more important as our world shifts in terms of population growth, regulatory oversight, climate change, and more. Project examples from Washington and Oregon will be shared where IWRM concepts have been employed to achieve various results. For those folks already knowledgeable of IWRM, I hope to pose fresh ideas about how IWRM is scalable to meet specific project objectives yet address issues such as cumulative impacts, and watershed protection. In addition, as time allows, I will discuss some of the pitfalls of IWRM, common mistakes made, and some ideas on how to maximize results from IWRM applications.
