Founded in 1970, Cascade Bicycle Club is a 14,000+ member nonprofit organization based in Seattle, Washington, dedicated to creating better communities through bicycling. Cascade is a local, regional and statewide leader in advocating for bicycle policy and infrastructure, producing world-class cycling events, educating youth and adult cyclists and promoting bicycle commuting. Cascade produces 13 major bicycle events and offers 1,300 free daily recreational rides annually. Our sphere of influence includes environmental sustainability, health and fitness, youth development and livable communities. Cascade is directed by an elected volunteer board and operates with 28 paid staff and thousands of volunteers.


The Communications Specialist supports Cascade Bicycle Club’s marketing, outreach, communications and development work, including print production, website, written and electronic communications and events, while managing independent design and online projects.

We are seeking a go-getter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, surrounded by colleagues who are passionate about Cascade’s mission. Candidates should find achievement in helping others and be confident working independently once given direction and deadline.


  • Solicit and edit content for website.
  • Maintain up-to-date websites using a content management system and HTML code.
  • Layout and execution of various e-news and e-appeals.
  • Prepare and execute online surveys.
  • Oversee production of print collateral (brochures, newsletter, posters, event displays), apparel, and direct mail elements such as envelopes, brochures, inserts, appeals etc.
  • Coordinate direct mail campaigns under the direction of development staff.
  • Coordinate workplace giving campaigns under the direction of development staff.
  • Provide proofreading and editing support for print and electronic communications to ensure accuracy, consistency and quality. Knowledge of AP Style helpful.
  • Monitor and track media to identify and share trends and coverage of interest.
  • Support development events, including annual Bike to Work Breakfast, PAC fundraisers and other events throughout the year.
  • Contribute to the Cascade blog and submit contributions for other staff to publicize Club activities.
  • Mailing list and ad sales and fulfillment (all in-bound).
  • Collaborate with outreach to coordinate and staff the outreach/membership booth.
  • Light graphic design (flyers, event displays, photo and graphic re-sizing).
  • On occasion, may serve as staff photographer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • BA/BS in English, Journalism, Communications or related subject.
  • Two years of relevant experience in communications. Event support experience helpful.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit structure helpful.
  • Solid knowledge of HTML and experience with website updating. Experience with WordPress, Drupal and GoLive (or other web editor) a plus.
  • Understanding of print production and preparing files for printer.
  • Knowledge of direct mail best practices or demonstrate willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with direction. Must be able to follow through on assignments and meet deadlines, have attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear communication style, strong interpersonal skills, excellent proofreading/editing skills.
  • Proficiency with technology required, including MS Office and web site content management. Familiarity with digital photography and databases a plus.
  • Graphic design experience, knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator and familiarity with digital photography highly desired.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as event and project deadlines dictate.

  • Full-time salaried position with some evening and weekend work required.
  • Reports to and is supervised by the Director of Communications and Marketing.
  • Six-month probationary performance review by supervisor.
  • Annual performance reviews at hire date.
  • Monetary compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience; full benefits package.
