COMMUNITY ORGANIZER OPPORTUNITY With Oikocredit USA

Oikocredit USA is seeking candidates for a contract community organizing position. The Community Organizer will be responsible for building and expanding Oikocredit’s volunteer network and promoting Oikocredit’s mission.

Oikocredit is committed to economic justice and to reducing poverty by providing credit to poor people and informing individuals and institutions of its investment opportunities.

Oikocredit, founded in 1975, is today the largest international private provider of microcredit in the world. It funds 530 microcredit banks and 230 community cooperatives in 71 countries. It receives capital to make loans to the world’s poor through social investing from people and organizations in the United States and elsewhere. Oikocredit pays interest to investors and full principal upon redemption.

Position Responsibilities
• Build and expand Oikocredit’s volunteer network
• Recruit leaders to head up Oikocredit’s new grassroots campaign
• Organize leadership development opportunities for Oikocredit volunteers
• Hit specific metrics outlined by the grassroots leadership team
• Complete reports and other paperwork as needed in an accurate and timely manner
Required Qualifications
• Commitment to economic justice
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Demonstrated experience in grassroots organizing skills including outreach and leadership development
• Excellent personal organization skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize and use time effectively
• Good computer skills including use of Microsoft Office programs and familiarity with online networks
• Willingness to work evening and weekend hours
• Willingness to speak publicly and represent the organization
Position will be a full time contract position that runs through August 8, 2010. The position may continue depending on program evaluation and funding.
