Database Development Engineer

3TIER, a leading provider of renewable energy information services, invites applications for a full-time Database Development Engineer at its downtown Seattle headquarters. Our services include real-time forecast and assessment products for the solar, wind, and hydro renewable energy industries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and improve highly-available, scalable, and interactive web applications.
• Lead the adoption of best practices for database administration.
• Design, configure, and maintain mission-critical database systems.
• Lead the development of efficient and maintainable database schemas and queries.

Qualified candidates will have the following:
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Postgres and other relational databases.
• Excellent knowledge of modern web programming languages such as Python or Ruby.
• Firm understanding of data management, database administration, data warehousing, and on-line transaction processing.
• Experience working in a UNIX/Linux command-line environment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and an eye toward aesthetic design.
• 2-5+ years experience working in a commercial software development environment.
• Comfortable working in a deadline-driven and result-oriented environment.
• Commitment to good development practices such as source control, bug tracking, documentation, and unit testing.
• Preferred candidates will have one or more of the following qualifications:
o Interest in renewable energy, weather, or earth and atmospheric science.
o Experience with web fundamentals such as javascript and HTML.
o Knowledge of AJAX, Flash, JSON, JQUERY, CSS, XML, and other web technologies.
o Experience with modern web frameworks such as Django.
o Knowledge of user interaction standards and usability concerns.
o Ability to architect large operational systems using well-defined APIs and modern design patterns such as MVC and SOA.
o Experience with localization and internationalization.
