POSITION SUMMARY: Earth Economics is excited to be hiring our first Director of Development and Marketing to join our senior team. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Director of Development and Marketing will be a key leadership team member, actively participating in making strategic decisions for Earth Economics.

The Development and Marketing Director will be responsible for building effective and efficient fundraising processes, as well as for organizational branding and telling the story of the importance and impact of Earth Economics’ work. We recently adopted an ambitious Long Range Plan that will require strong growth in capacity in the years ahead. Our 2014 budget anticipates approximately $2 million in revenues, and the Development and Marketing Director will ensure this target is met, while positioning the organization to ramp up revenues in subsequent years. The two primary sources of Earth Economics revenue are and will be foundation grants and fee-for-service contracts, primarily with public agencies. In addition, we anticipate developing smaller but growing revenue centers in major gifts and fee-for-service contracts with private sector entities. Salary to be commensurate with skills, experience, and ability to be successful.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design and implement effective and efficient fundraising processes to execute on priority grant and contract proposals, deliver required reports, and nurture and sustain excellent relationships with funders.
• Coordinate planning, prioritization, and timelines for all funding proposals to ensure Earth Economics meets or exceeds annual revenue targets.
• Organize, prepare and edit complete multiple response submittal packages to funders, or in response to RFP and RFI notifications;
• Successfully lead communications effort with potential clients from initial contact through to execution of contract.
• Working closely with the Executive Director, Managing Director and other key staff, identify and cultivate new funding opportunities to expand Earth Economics’ circle of funders and enable the organization to grow its capacity and impact.
• Lead research into new funding prospects, including foundations, fee-for-service contracts, and major gifts to determine appropriate fit and to design viable proposal strategies that will best advance Earth Economics’ mission.
• Develop a compelling Case for Support for use with potential funders, allies, and other key audiences.
• Conduct a comprehensive review of Earth Economics organizational branding and design and execute a program to strengthen the brand and to ensure effective, powerful, and consistent communication of the Earth Economics value proposition and track record of achievement.
• Work closely with and support Board Members in an active fundraising role.
• Monitor and report regularly on key metrics to reflect the progress of Earth Economics’ development and marketing initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Knowledge:
• The Director of Development and Marketing needs, first and foremost, demonstrated skill and a significant track record in fundraising to support and build mission-driven organizational capacity.
• S/he must be a skilled communicator, able to grasp and compellingly and crisply convey our vision, mission, long-range plan and strategies.
• Strong, clear, accessible writing and verbal skills are a must.
• Extensive knowledge of nonprofit fundraising processes, including foundation grants, fee-for-service contracts, and major gifts is strongly desired, as is knowledge of organizational branding in the nonprofit context.
• Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Earth Economics is essential.
• Demonstrated leadership skill, capability to design long-term strategic initiatives, and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple short-term projects simultaneously are all essential to the job.
• A creative, collaborative, humorous, inspirational, reliable, and hard-working nature are strongly desired.
• Ability to operate desktop computer and Microsoft Windows/Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and InDesign as well as Salesforce, in a network environment.

Required Experience:
Minimum of five-plus years of professional experience in a fundraising or sales context, preferably with nonprofit organizations as part of the development team.
At least two years of professional experience in a leadership role as part of a senior organizational team working collaboratively to chart organizational strategies.

Education and Training:
Bachelor’s Degree at a minimum.
A Master's Degree in environmental systems, economics, public policy, or business administration or marketing would be applicable, but is not required.

Licenses or Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to possess, within 3 months, a driver’s license and auto insurance.
