Position Description - Electrical Engineer
Planetary Power Inc.

Planetary Power’s vision is to replace traditional power generation with practical renewable energy with no compromise in performance or reliability and at a lower cost than fossil-fuel generators. Our products minimize the environmental impacts of power generation and enable clean reliable power to be generated anywhere.

Planetary Power’s advanced hybrid generators integrate advanced motors, engines, drives and controls.
Planetary Power also develops micro-turbine-based concentrated solar power systems that have efficiencies higher than any other solar energy conversion systems and that can run seamlessly on traditional fuels for 24/7 reliability. Planetary Power requires an Electrical Engineer with expertise in electrical power systems, in particular mechanical-to-electrical power systems operating in rotational speed ranges from 700 rpm to 200,000+ rpm.
• Design, integrate and test moderate and high power electrical power generation and conversion systems. The generation systems include both diesel engine driven and microturbine driven systems. Electrical conversion systems perform AC-to-DC, DC-to-AC, AC-to-AC, and DC-to-DC conversions.
• Establish requirements and specifications for purchased electronic and control systems components and systems. Manage and conduct vendor source selections.
• Create electrical wiring diagrams with full notations for power generation, power conversion and system control subsystems.
• Evaluate and conduct source selection of renewable power sources including photovoltaic panels, wind turbines and micro-hydrodynamic systems to be integrated with diesel or spark ignition generators and energy storage systems.
• Perform make/buy analysis for power generation, conversion, and power system control subsystems. For those determined to be made, design and direct fabrication, integration and testing within the overall hybrid generation system.
• Use Program Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems to control power equipment
• Integrate communication link capabilities to enable remote access and operation of hybrid generation systems globally.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5-10 years’ experience with field work desirable
• Experience using AutoCad Electrical
• Understanding of high frequency power generation and conversion systems as well as typical North American and international power standards
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Excellent organizational skills and program management skills, including a demonstrated ability to efficiently plan, organize, and manage projects with limited direct supervision
