The Washington State Recycling Association (WSRA) is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader to guide a successful nonprofit association into new and expanded activities. The new Executive Director will lead a strategic planning effort to identify new program objectives and activities and new funding sources.

About WSRA
The WSRA is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit formed in 1976 to support the fledgling recycling industry and promote recycling in the state of Washington. WSRA members encompass a diverse group of representatives from recycling and solid waste companies; city, county and state government staff; nonprofit organizations; compost processors; green builders; colleges and universities; and private citizens. With over 500 members, WSRA provides a forum for discussing recycling issues at a level that reflects a deep pool of experience and expertise across the state. Learn more at www.wsra.net.

The Executive Director is responsible for all day-to-day operations of WSRA, as well as the leadership, management, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all current and future programs.

As one of the primary champions of the mission, along with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will demonstrate strong leadership in the creation of shared vision, inspiring staff, volunteers and board members to perform at their highest level, and create, as well as identify, strategic opportunities for the organization.

This position reports to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and leads a professional staff team of two. The right candidate must assume many roles and must be a highly organized self-starter.

Desired Experience and Skills
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and relationship-building skills, and sense of humor
• Demonstrated ability to manage professional relationships with diverse constituencies
• Persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong track record of project development and management, preferably in the nonprofit sector
• Ability to think strategically and to develop and implement operating plans
• Proven track record of nonprofit development experience, such as grant writing, donor solicitation, fundraising events, and member recruitment and retention
• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to organize resources, manage multiple projects and establish priorities
• Strong marketing and public relations experience
• Effective team-building skills and ability to foster leadership in others
• Ability to allocate limited resources among competing priorities
• Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
• Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends
• Recycling industry knowledge a plus

Core responsibilities include the following:

Leadership & Operational Management
• Guide the Association in carrying out its mission, ensuring its programs build on accomplishments to date and further strengthen the quality, relevance, and profile of the organization.
• Work with the Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan that incorporates goals and objectives and programmatic activities for the future of the organization.
• Determine how best to develop and utilize volunteer committees and the Board of Directors
• Act as a community ambassador and advocate by establishing good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with associations, members, politicians, businesses, community groups, and other organizations.
• Ensure that all documents, licenses, and policies necessary for the proper functioning of the organization are in place and accessible.
• Maintain human resource policies, procedures, and practices and actively oversee the hiring, training, development, and management of sufficient organization staff.
• Provide financial oversight, planning, and management, including the preparation of and adherence to a comprehensive annual budget. Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed.

Fundraising & Member Recruitment
• Expand the fiscal base to support program operations.
• Develop and implement member recruitment and retention best practices.

Program Management
• Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization's programs, events, and services.
• Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission.
• Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality.
• Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects.
