3TIER, a leading provider of renewable energy information services, invites applications for a full-time QA Engineer position at its downtown Seattle headquarters. Our services include real-time forecast and assessment products for the solar, wind, and hydro renewable energy industries. The prospective employee will own the processes and tools that ensure the quality of the software and data products produced by 3TIER. Duties include leading the testing process, participating in design and code review, developing test plans, writing test automation software, and integrating into the software release process. 3TIER provides a dynamic and challenging work environment, with innovative and engaging user interfaces, terabytes of data, and a talented and impassioned team of developers and scientists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop actionable and comprehensive plans for testing 3TIER's software systems.
• Participate in the design and development of 3TIER's software systems, with an emphasis on instrumentation, testability, and defect reduction.
• Implement tools to test the performance and scalability of 3TIER's software.
• Design, implement, and test automation tools for the efficient implementation of test plans.
• Lead and manage the quality assurance process both during and between software deployments
• Lead the detection, management, and resolution of software defects.
• Develop processes and tools to test and validate the data and information that 3TIER's software produces.

Qualified candidates will have the following:
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience designing, developing, and executing back-end and front-end test automation suites
• Understanding of good development practices such as source control, bug tracking, documentation, and unit testing
• Experience working in a Unix/Linux command-line environment
• Facility in a programming language such as C, C++, Python, or Ruby
• Ability to self-manage projects
• Ability to work semi-independently in a team-oriented atmosphere where close and effective coordination with other professionals is essential for success
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills
• Preferred candidates will have one or more of the following qualifications:
• Interest in renewable energy, earth or atmospheric science
• Experience testing multi-lingual systems
• Understanding of performance- and load- testing strategies
• Experience testing large-scale, high-volume production systems
• Experience testing web-based B-to-B and/or B-to-C systems
