3TIER, a leading provider of real-time forecast and assessment products for the solar, wind, and hydro renewable energy industries, invites applications for a full-time Software Development Engineer at its downtown Seattle headquarters. This talented individual will design, develop, and improve innovative services to help our clients make decisions regarding the operation and development of renewable energy projects. 3TIER provides a dynamic and challenging work environment, with hundreds of compute nodes, terabytes of data, and sophisticated physical and statistical models.

The successful candidate will be able to work as a team through the complete product life cycle with limited supervision, learn new systems and technologies quickly, and have an interest in renewable energy.

Qualified candidates will have the following

  • B.S. or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Earth Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or Ruby.
  • Experience working in a UNIX/Linux command-line environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of object-oriented and service-oriented software design fundamentals.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • 2-5 years experience working in a commercial software development.
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven and result-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to good development practices such as source control, bug tracking, documentation, and unit testing.

    Preferred candidates will have one or more of the following qualifications

  • Interest in renewable energy, earth and atmospheric science
  • Experience with distributed computing environments and High Performance Computing.
  • Experience with large, gridded data sets, such as remote sensing and climatic data, using tools such as NetCDF.
  • Experience with the SQL required to interact with relational databases such as Postgres or PostGIS.
  • Knowledge of geospatial analysis tools such as GMT, GDAL, MapServer, PostGIS, and PROJ4.
  • Ability to architect large operational systems using well-defined APIs and modern design patterns.
