With offices in Seattle and San Jose, our staff of 35 specializes in recycling and materials management, climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy efficiency, sustainability, and natural resource planning. We provide clients with a range of services from research and analysis, to facilitation and strategic planning, to education and outreach, to program design, management and evaluation.

Cascadia is currently hiring a Summer Intern to support implementation of projects related to recycling, composting, and energy efficiency as well as assist our administrative and business development functions. The Summer Intern provides an opportunity to learn about how an environmental consulting practice works, to develop skills, and to contribute to the success of projects and the organization.

For 2011, Cascadia is seeking a Summer Intern with strong outreach, writing, and analytical skills. The internship will likely be 20-30 hours per week and could include evening and weekend hours.

Possible activities:
-Climate and Energy Projects: Conduct outreach to homeowners and community groups encouraging participation in an energy efficiency pilot program, could include organizing and/or conducting trainings for community organizations Assist with program administration: database entry, record keeping, reporting, updating the program’s customer relations management database Assist with conducting a carbon footprint study, including data collection and using the Cascadia Carbon Calculator Tool

-Recycling and Materials Management Projects: Provide outreach to the public on recycling, waste reduction, and composting Conduct field work sampling the waste and recycling stream as part of a waste characterization field crew Do data entry

-General Support: Conduct research as needed Assist with office organization and filing Assist with revising and updating Cascadia’s website and social media presence

Qualified candidates will possess the following:
Minimum two years of undergraduate education as part of a 4 year program.
Strong critical thinking and research skills.
Clear and concise writing skills.
Excellent verbal communication and customer service/outreach skills.
Skill in using spreadsheets, databases, and Microsoft Office programs.

Other highly desired qualifications include: Knowledge of waste education and recycling, natural yard care, climate change, energy efficiency, water conservation, green building, and/or hazardous waste management.
Previous education and outreach experience.
