System Programmer

3TIER has an outstanding entry-level opportunity for a dynamic candidate with a blend of computer and physical science skills for a position as a System Programmer. The System Programmer will work with 3TIER scientists and software engineers to develop and maintain software tools used in forecasting and assessment of renewal energy projects. The ideal candidate will be able to work on multiple projects with limited supervision, learn new systems quickly, and have an interest in renewable energy science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with 3TIER scientists and software team to develop and maintain software tools for the operation of a Linux-based supercomputing cluster.
• Participate in the real time operation and troubleshooting of production systems.
• Work with 3TIER real time forecasting scientists and software team to develop and maintain software tools for real time forecasting operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience working with a command-line Unix/Linux environment
• BS or studies in Computer Science, Engineering, Earth Science or related field.
• High-level programming experience required; Ruby, Perl or Python is desirable.
• Experience with compiled languages such as C, C++, or Fortran
• Experience with relational database management systems
• Experience with any of the following is also desirable:
o Processing weather observations and simulations and/or other earth science data.
o SQL preferably MYSQL in a production environment.
o Deployment of software in a clustered environment.
