SALARY: Project Specialist II, $49,611/yr - $69,013/yr, DOQ & DOE

LOCATION: Renton, Washington
WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week, flexible schedule, 1 Saturday per month

General Description
This position serves as a mid-level member of a team of conservation professionals in a small, county wide, public, natural resources agency. Working both in the field and office, this position is a labor intensive, multi-faceted position requiring a high level of motivation, versatility, and independent work. Plan, organize, and coordinate natural resource, water quality, and stream and wetland enhancement projects; provide technical support to the King Conservation District (District) Landowner Incentive Program; organize and coordinate volunteer events; provide assistance at the Wetland Plant Cooperative and Native Plant Holding Facility (WPC); assist other staff in carrying out miscellaneous grant or contract related tasks as part of the District’s annual plan of work.

Essential Job Functions
• Plan, organize and carry out community based stream and wetland enhancement projects on private land within the boundary of the District
• Perform labor-intensive native plant propagation tasks at the WPC
• Coordinate volunteer and conservation corps work crew activities on stream and wetland buffer enhancement projects and at the WPC
• Conduct site visits and prepare Best Management Practices Job Sheets for landowners interested in applying for cost-share funding through the District Landowner Incentive Program
• Conduct site visits for the general public and local landowners on natural resource management practices and prepare technical site visit reports and assistance packets
• Coordinate the District annual bare-root plant sale, including selecting and ordering plants; advertising; preparing and processing plant orders; and coordinating plant sale events
• Manage grants, including all reporting and record keeping
• Write grant proposals to obtain funding for strategic/special projects
• Write educational fact sheets, articles and assist with publications
• Prepare written progress reports and document accomplishments
• Develop and support District partnerships with other agencies, organizations and groups involved in watershed restoration activities
• Perform office and administrative tasks in support of assigned projects
• Communicate effectively with staff, other agency personnel, the public, and diverse landowner populations using persuasive and negotiation skills
• Currently hold or can obtain a valid Washington State Drivers License
• Able to take direction and work as a member of a team

Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in environmental science or a closely related natural resources field and 3 years of directly related professional experience. A Masters Degree in environmental science or a closely related natural resources field may be substituted for 1 year of directly related professional experience
• Knowledge and experience in stream and wetland restoration techniques, native plant species, native plant propagation, and uses of native plants to enhance fish and wildlife habitat
• Experience planning and organizing restoration projects, working with the public and private landowners, and supervising volunteer and conservation corps work crews
Desirable Skills and Experience
• Knowledgeable of Puget Sound watersheds, common rural and urban land use practices, and the resource management issues and challenges facing the region.
• Knowledge and/or experience planning, designing, installing fish enhancement projects
• Knowledge and/or understanding of the biology of local fish species
• Knowledge and/or understanding of physical stream processes, e.g. hydraulics, channel configuration, geomorphology, etc.
• Knowledge and/or understanding of forest health management principles
• Experience preparing site maps/plans with drafting software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, or AutoDesk Civil Design
• Experience using GIS software
