Sightline Institute, the Northwest’s sustainability think tank, has an outstanding opportunity for a top-notch news editor to manage our online Northwest news service, Sightline Daily (http://daily.sightline.org), which provides a daily digest of the Northwest news that matters to thousands of influential citizens across Cascadia.

Primary responsibilities are to oversee the posting of the Sightline Daily news edition five days a week, with the help of a part-time contract editor; to help shape the editorial voice of the site; to regularly write short commentary for Sightline’s blog (http://daily.sightline.org/daily_score); and to work with other communications staffers to continually improve the site’s effectiveness and reach.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of professional editing and reporting experience, solid news judgment, a thorough knowledge of Pacific Northwest issues, and a talent for turning policy issues into compelling prose. Ideally, she or he would also have experience working in an online news environment and be tech-savvy.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Communications Director with a starting salary range of $38k - $42k (+ 10% retirement), dependent on experience.
